Best Deftones Songs for New Fans

The band's biggest song remains the best introduction: a quiet-loud structure, an indelible riff and Chino Moreno at his most controlled.

Stephen Carpenter's down-tuned opening riff captures the band's physical weight, while Moreno's hazy vocal points toward everything that came later.

The guitars are crushing and strangely luminous at once, with a chorus built for anyone who needs escape to feel enormous.

A clipped electronic beat and one of Moreno's prettiest melodies disguise a lyric far darker than the polished surface suggests.

The band softens its attack without losing weight, letting the wide guitars and intimate vocal create a convincing sense of suspension.

This slow-burning fan favorite keeps adding pressure to its central guitar figure until the final chorus feels much larger than the first.

The massive guitar wash shows Deftones at their most atmospheric, while Moreno's melody gives the song a clear emotional center.

The track moves from a tense, controlled groove to Rodleen Getsic's terrifying guest scream, a rupture that still feels genuinely dangerous.

A direct riff and unusually immediate chorus make this one of the cleanest entry points into the band's heavier side.

At nearly seven minutes, it earns its length by moving patiently from dreamlike verses to a finale with genuine scale.
