Giant Companies We’d Break Up Tomorrow
Sprawling empires hide weak businesses and concentrate too much power.
1.
Alphabet
Alphabet combines dominant search advertising with YouTube, cloud computing, Android and Waymo. Separating them would expose which advantages come from product and which come from distribution.
3
2.
Microsoft
Microsoft links Windows, Office, Azure, games and AI investments through contracts and distribution. The pieces increasingly strengthen market power rather than simple operating efficiency.
3
3.
Apple
Apple’s services business enjoys privileged access to devices and payment rules controlled by the same company. Separation would test its value without that advantage.
3
4.
Amazon
Amazon’s retail marketplace, logistics network, advertising operation and AWS reinforce one another while hiding very different economics inside the same company.

5.
Meta
Meta’s ownership of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp gives one founder unusual control over global communication. Each product could survive with independent capital and leadership.
2
6.
Nvidia
Nvidia sells chips, networking, software and cloud access while investing in many customers. The integrated stack is brilliant and increasingly difficult for rivals to enter.

7.
Berkshire Hathaway
Berkshire owns insurance, rail, energy, manufacturing and a huge securities portfolio. The culture may survive Buffett, but these businesses no longer require one roof.
2
8.
Comcast
Comcast combines broadband infrastructure with NBCUniversal, streaming and theme parks. Clearer ownership would stop distribution and media strategy from protecting each other.
2
9.
Disney
Disney’s parks, studios, television networks and streaming service face very different capital needs. The profitable resorts should not carry every difficult media decision.
2
10.
Sony Group
Sony combines games, music, film, electronics and image sensors. The collection works financially, but each business deserves a strategy clearer than corporate balance.
